And are you opposed to having a real Earth map?
That would be sweet.  I think I've seen Johnny mention that somewhere here on the boards.  I was thinking a pacific/southeast Asia map would be fun, givin' the current state of world affairs.  Get the western U.S. in there, China, and N. Korea! lol, that'd be fun.

Here is the map I have been working on.  Johnny has used mirrored maps in the past, so I decided to do the same.

This map has a lot of sectors that aren't really meant to be claimed.  Just to be there for decor and sea walls.  I also made this with the intention of four teams going against each other after each team has taken control of their own "tree" island.  The "trees" are continuous lines of sea for easy transporting through allies' or enemies' lands.  Each large island also has a continuous land wall with a few holes in it to help defend a bit more.

Whether you like it or not, enjoy!

That would make for an interesting game!
Oooo!  Love the island barriers and island chunks in between: reminds me of coral reefs.  Should make for some interesting naval island hopping.

Great job man!  Would love to see this one go live.

I like as well.
Here is a Europe map I made...the rivers and mountains being somewhat more inaccessible should lend it toward more historical realism. The original is 2048x1024.  What are your thoughts?

(I wish I could have included more of North Africa, but this was the best I could find that was big enough)

I got a new map in the making.  Should be done by next week...

It'll be an interesting one, that's for sure.

This map looks good, and would make game play more realistic.  and for the mountains, make them white

This is essentially rioja, and this gt only allows for 2 default colors for the maps. (I think)

Dang if thats true then that sucks (no offense to the developer of the game)
I think that GT2 allows for more colors (maybe)

This one took me about 20 minutes to make using GIMP.  I call it Arboleda.  I hope you enjoy it.  I think it would be very tedious grabbing all that land though.  :)
I actually like the Idea of trying to fight for small islands

My first attempt at mapping.  I call it Bubbles ;)
Let's see how it looks.

I've been working on a map of Russia. any ideas/suggestions?

Make sure you include most of the rivers and lakes
Joder wrote on :

I would like to think that a map with lots of water would be  tricky to work with...especially with large amounts of water to cross to get to the next island.  That is a map idea I want to work with.  Good luck with it.

*Map is above...figured it would do a lot more in clutter since it is right there.  See Bubbles map above.*

Perhaps rotating Africa (towards the left side of the map) can help fill some of that water AND get Africa on the map itself.

*Map pictured above.*
user imageThis is what I have so far, please make suggestions. (resized to 758x381)
Note: I am using a laptop with a very touchy trackpad, so not everything is as geographicly accurate as it could be.

This would be great as a 5 on 5 duel
user imageThis is a map of my home state that I made out of sheer boredom.
resizing it seems to have stretched it to beyond the normal shape.

So I figured I would save some time by only playing one GT map...... and it turned out that the time I saved just got used to make a new map.  ;)

I just finished it.  It has sort of an electronic circuit theme.  It's suited for players that have done several maps and want to try something a bit different.  Some parts of this map require days to cross only a few sectors in one direction due to the land/water patterns.

Enjoy!

Good job on your island maps too.  They look great.  Even a simple map with a bunch of circles on it would be interesting...
I like the map...just thinking though about the left and right of GT in the middle...perhaps some small something or another...that is a HUGE gap...but I like it.

Just to clarify, I don't necessarily see every post that is made on the message board, and I assume maps posted here may be for feedback rather than submission.

So, if you'd like to submit a map for consideration for use in the game, please e-mail it to me using the contact link at the bottom of the site.

Map With nautical theme emphasizing use of Navy and CT's. Thoughts? my first attempt at a map. I know it isnt a "natural" terrain but a little more fun with recognizable shapes that will be a bit of a challenge.

Degigned after a compas rose with marh like areas around center and oceans filled many islands and reefs.

user image
PLanning to add more in the corners and more reefs thoughout to fill the bigger spaces in the oceans with small amounts of land good for air bases ect. 2048x1024

Please comment and give any suggestions!
129)Rick
Dang, that one is awesome.  Not a lot of land to grab, but that does not matter in the long run.  Good theme and cool symmetricity  Good job.
130)Raven
Well it is meant to be more fighting over less land, kinda "Battle of the Pacific" like emphasis of navy and land will be worth more cause there isnt alot.

well great idea but crappy map. Someone needs to do an island map that would be cool for a  navy dominated game

I wasnt intending for a "natral" style map it was a theme map that would offer something differnt. There is a lot of detail that cant be seen by a small pic, and there is still more to be added. But there is a lot in there to offer challenge, like most of the islands have a reef around them to prevent landing directly on the island. so many of the maps are of natural landforms which can be nice, but i think something different is nice to break long used strategies ect. after i finish this i will work on another map also Navy based.
I dig it. not that it really means anything, but this map gets my stamp of approval.  if you add anything, fill in the corners.
134)Rick
Different maps are fun too.  A combination of natural and different maps is the way to go.  I think Raven's map is cool because of all the drawings and details.  The less land there is, the more valuable it is.

You can send it to Johnny when you are done by using the contacts link.  No guarantee that he will use it, but so far your chances are good.
Looks awesome...strategy WILL BE key on that map.  As a matter of fact, just gave me an idea for a map...if only I had some time to do the research, make the map, etc...and I even have an idea for a map name...lol.  This is the map that will challenge all...and test your nautical skills in this game.  It will be tough, and any long, drawn out battle can be VERY costly to both sides.  I stamp an APPROVAL on this by far...lol.

Only wish I could delete that post...after exploring the map, I like it a lot...did not realize the "wires" or whatever they are were actually part of the map.

This in reference to the Salta map further above.

One last map of mine for now.  This one is for more experienced players as well.  It features a large transport-ship-shape in the middle surrounded by two rings of small islands.  The outer ring is where players are allowed to start their country, the inner ring is for expansion only.

Basically players start with their island of approx 250 sectors and either race to the ship or race to defeat their neighbors.  Conserving money is key to this map, because the money gained off of 250 sectors is minimal.  The player(s) who make it to the ship will quickly outgrow anyone else and take control of the map.  Stop them before they get there.

There would be 6 or so initial spawning locations around the outside of the map.  Players would not be able to spawn on the ship or the inner ring of islands because they are either out of range or cannot be chosen because of the water.

Good quick map and quick to play.
Suited for FFA, like Kota.

My current final work, lots of work, and very fine detaile, there is morse code in lots of the open water offering smaller island that could be used as partial landbridges and  bases for asauts on bigger islands ect. The Morse code spells out lots of historical naval stuff, and some fun things as well, all is apropriot. It would be a instensive map as there is not a lot of land. Feedback is appreciated (note this is more modified from the earlier  one)

I like that a lot, it would be fun to play!

I think it looks way cool.  Very detailed.  Would make it harder to grab land, but those that deserve the victory will do so.  Send it to Johnny when it's 100% done.  He'll probably use it.

any thoughts on anything i could add? more detail = better in my book.

definitely the best idea so far from what I see on the posts

How do you make a map?
147)Rick
Use a paint file or any other photo editor.
Size the picture to fit standard GT dimensions. (ie. each size is four times bigger or smaller than other sizes)
Make a two-color map.

it won't let me copy and paste the picture i want to put. any ideas on how else to do it?

The best players won't necessarily make the best creatives/developers.

I'd say put the tool in everyone's hand and let the maps be judged on their own merit.  Then let the best map win.
My thoughts,
You could do a Poll on the map for those who Join to Vote on the choices of maps, (you could even use old ones in the mix)  and let the players choose from all the choices. For a random spawn I think it would be fun to not know where we are until the Start Date, or that could be voted on as well, maybe, but close a vote 3 days before the start on worlds where we  find our starting position. if we miss the pick its random, maybe, or you pick later??
