Nukes are usually too expensive and not the way to go.  They are best used when capturing an enemy capital that has a lot of stuff on it.

What is the range of nukes? (How many squares away can they go from the airbase?)

Jets have a range of 250
Missiles has 500
Bombs has 1200

Also, there is a ruler tool that you can set in the settings page that gives ranges. I only found it recently, and it's a huge help in determining whether or not you can reach something, although with nukes it's usually a given .
