What about pins that only the owner can see? Sometimes I like to decorate the map with self-reminders or locations but may clutter up the map for alliances. I also want to be able to pin sensitive information for myself and only myself to see.

Perhaps there can be personal pins and alliance pins? They can be different colors (with the letter A on the alliance pin's head for the color-blind?) Also, an option to turn both personal and alliance pins on and off independently.
I second this request, for all the reasons given by Manaco.  Great idea.
How about color options?

I think it would be easier as an alliance as a whole to have colored pins. for example an alliance could agree to:
red pins signify bases
green pins signify L9 armies
blue pins signify something of importance
etc.

I understand one can just type in a short message but the text is limited to so many characters that simply changing the pin's color speaks more than words could.

Good idea.  I'd only worry that it'd get too complicated to coordinate colors among allies.

I was going to say how about flags, round-headed or slightly larger pins for alliance-only pins, normal or smaller push-pins for personal pins.

I also would request a pin icon for alliance pins when you're at the grid level.
to bring this back because this is a feature I would love to see happen.

To add a minor note: If my pin and an ally pin share the same sector (or very near adjacent sectors), my pin overlaps theirs and I cannot see them unless I remove my pin.
Thus, I would like an extra option allowing the toggling of viewing allied pins versus personal pins to allow me to see my allies' pins (which usually contain different info) while retaining my pins (which is usually informative as well)

..and I second this particular motion.
