if the update jumped between 6am and 3pm, people would be pissed because of the irregularity, and the game not allowing them a fair chance to get online and set their attacks.
Did you look at the example? it doesn't jump the update is progressively one hour later than It was the day before.  They would have an extra hour to get online and set their attacks.  But johnny already shot this idea down, so whatever.

i looked at it, but the way you worded the second part threw me off. sorry about that. although it seems like it would be easy to get used to, i think it would be more trouble than it's worth, and harder for a new player to get used to it because of the perceived irregularity.

The one decision I'd have to make is whether or not to allow the higher distance across unoccupied territory.  Since all other units in the game move equal distances across owned or unowned, and since the attack would now let you take advantage of unused move distance, perhaps I should allow the full distance.
It would be nice if the truck could keep up with infantry and tanks.

Be able to see our alliance's radar arrays? could that be implemented? this would be rather helpful

I initially coded it that way, but then I removed the alliance radar sweep.  My worry is that scanning that many sectors is going to be very intensive on the server.  So, I think I'll leave it to countries to notify allies about enemy units with pins or a message board post.

Ok, that works. thanks

Can we get a more comprehensive breakdown of our country's stats? Maybe a link to an upkeep cost breakdown?
...Additional Statistics on the main page...

Country's percentage of the world land sectors.  (I know that I can calculate this, but...)

Global occupied percentage.

Global money per sector earned. (just because I want to know what share of collected monies is mine)

How about temporary ceasefires?  You can already create these technically, but it'd be convenient to be able to set up a 10(or whatever) day long "treaty."

What about Alliance treaties?  Or maybe not treaties but some form of pact?  These could also be limited time engagements.
110)QiKe
add a small map the size of borogov for a battle royale. In this map, block treaties, alliances and make countries anonymous. Make it so countries cant see other countries names and make Nukes cheaper as well.

Also, replace the Largest Countries list for a Most Casualties list.

This map shouldnt be allowed for new players of less than 3-4 weeks.

I'm probably going to be implementing aircraft carriers and missile frigates soon.  (They'll basically work as air bases tied to sea units.  The air base can only be filled up when adjacent to a sea and air base and can only develop one type of air unit, depending on the type of sea unit.)

The current transport unit resembles a carrier and I needed to differentiate the missile frigate from the warship, so here's what the new units will look like once implemented:

From left to right, it's a transport, a warship, a carrier, and a frigate.
warship and frigate look too close still, imo
Alliances on overview...

I posted a screenshot with the alliances on cerato as of today.  I was thinking that a circle on the alliance founder with lines radiating out from it to the members with the alliance name on the leader would be nice on the overview (maybe with an on/off button).  This would make it easier to plan your attacks and who to pick fights with.

I was actually gonna bring up something similar.  Johny the land "info" panel could the name of alliance appear under the countries name.  Because as of right now the best way i know to find my neighbors and who they allied with is to.

Click ? on land of their country
Click country name
Write down or remember name of leader
on main GT webpage click through alliances until if find them.

If the exists a better way sweet.  If not Johnny is the some improvement that could be made?

Thanks,

I really liked your graphic and your suggestion!  It's now available on the "Overview" tool.

I ended up creating a path from each country in an alliance to the next, which I think makes following it around the map easy.  I also put the label on the country that's furthest left, just for consistency.

If you click the country's name to see its info, it now lists and links to its alliance.

Part of me likes the idea of having to pay a bit more attention to see exactly what's coming at you.

Any other opinions on them?

I suppose everything else in the game looks rather distinct, so I should go the same route with sea units.  How's this?

I like it a lot.
I'm not a huge fan of the missile frigates - I think it just complicates things too much, especially for the newer players.  I think it would be much simpler just to have aircraft carriers, and let those act as an airbase for both jets and missiles, rather than making a distinction between the two.

i wouldn't worry about the frigate as it is lik $125k for an optioned out one.

The missiles, of course, are the big cost there.  They've always been very expensive.

True, but if I am gonna send it across the ocean to extend my range, I am gonna fill the ship.  Then if I have that much invested in the cargo, I am gonna uparmor the ship.

On a side note, could it be possible for warships to "defend" at gun range?  This would make warships more useful.
One thing would be useful would a list of units that do not yet have orders for the day.

If could be on the World, Tools menu and work much like the Battle Log, but it only shows the land/sae units that have no Attack commands for the day and Air Bases that have units available still. Anything with a perpetual attack would not be shown, or could be another group in the list. Unlike the Battle Log, I see no reason to provide data for previous days.
any thoughts on allowing us to build bases on bridges? perhaps at a higher cost  , also is there a way to destroy your own bridge?

Just one.  Definitely not.

I typically use jets.  Assuming you don't pass over enemies, you'll get all of them back.

How about some different styles of maps?

Like one with just a single large continent, or one that's mostly water with lots of medium to small sized islands.

Or what about very small objective style maps?  I'm talking about really small, like maybe only 100,000 sectors, games that would be closed at start up and would last about a month or so.  You could make a small map with random start locations with to or 3 randomly selected "teams" and see who comes out on top.  Just some ideas, variety is the spice of life!

Also as fun as it is in Cerato having an endless amount of money, I think that map needs to end, and maps that size be saved until this game goes mainstream haha.

This is a site suggestion:

The ability to toggle columns in threads and replies. Such as creating 2 side-by-side columns in PowerPoint or MS Word. This would allow for organizing comparisons, pictures with side writings, picture to picture comparisons and managing multiple quotes or responses.

I would really love to see this happen in the threads and forums. PLEASE allow for this to happen. Im sure EVERYONE can make perfect use of it without abusing it.

nope, it would be greater visually. even my trackpad can scroll :p

Air Superiority - Jets can "patrol" an area x sectors from their base, and if any incoming missiles or jets come into that space, they get to go into combat against it.

-___- i just thought it would look fresh. and just an idea, not a demand.

direct side-by-side comparisons are key to strategic planning, plus i just thought it would look awesome... like a PowerPoint slide or Word doc with columns. Anyways, its for Johnny to decide
1) Would different-coloured capitals (based on ownership of your own capital) be possible on the "Explore Map" screen as well?

2) Would it be possible for the (Net) "Sectors Gained" statistic to be broken down into Sectors Gained and Sectors Lost?  I think that it would make it easier to see if you're losing territory to someone, especially if it's somewhere out of the way.  Of course, I imagine that a lot of coding changes would be required to keep tabs on this information very readily.
Hi, just signed up and played my first turn.  Looks like a great game so far.  Good work!!!

Anyway, this is a suggestion for the future games/mini games/tournaments idea.  What about having present countries (like Earth with the current countries) and having a sealed bid system for players to pick countries.

Basically, you could sign up and any time before the start day put a sealed bid for up to four countries/locations, in order of priority.  The winning player for any country would have that cost deducted from their starting account.

The bid would look something like
Priority    Location      Bid
1              France        $2200
2              US                $1000
3              Tahiti            $300
4              Iceland        $300

Then when the game starts, it takes a country and compares all the priority 1 bids for that country and gives it to the highest bidder.  This happens for all countries.  All winning players are removed from the list.  Then it goes through again for any remaining countries at priority 2.  Then 3 and 4.  If there are any players/countries not selected, then there would have a be another bid round... i.e. "Your bids weren't good enough, these are the countries that are left".

Also, I second the idea of slightly different graphics for increased unit size.  Maybe stars or bars or a combination for the levels next to the unit.  If a star is '5' and a bar is '1', then a level 7 infantry would have a star and two bars next to it.

Thanks again.  I'm looking forward to the games starting Monday.

Another though I just had while reading the random start location thread.  Can there be any provision for moving a capital?

Definitely not.  An important factor of the random placement gameplay is defending wherever you happen to be placed.
'nother thought.  I think this has been mentioned, but perhaps we could have two types of aircraft.  An attack or bomber that is just what we have now and then a fighter that has no combat function, but instead protects a certain radius around the air base from other air attacks (nukes, missiles, bombs, and attack aircraft.)

The other thing (and I know you're working on the site stuff), but can we have a display for who the owner of the country is without having to start the game, go through the world, then a sector, and three menus?  Maybe just a screen from the game menu that has country, owner, other stats, link to send message, alliances, etc.

Thanks
Ogre

I'll shut up now and just enjoy the game.

Explore map.  Zoom View. Sector. Country name.

I don't know what 3 menus you're talking about clicking through.  I count only 4 clicks from the home page before you can see the country name, owner name, alliance name, and country size.  Add one more click and you can see a list of every country that player has ever owned organized by world, as well as a player bio.

I don't really see how you could make it more streamlined than that without making the homepage full of mostly useless information.
As I am sure that people have figured out, radar is almost useless.  I would like to propose a radar ship that is unarmed but well armored and moves maybe 1.5 as fast as a warship.

This would allow stationing a line of them as an early warning system.

Maybe a VERY expensive ($300,000) Spy satellite that gets placed in a geosync orbit and "highlights" a large area (R=400 sector), both sea and land.

Especially on Certo, but this would really make defending your land quicker so you don't have to pan the oceans looking for a stray transport.

We already have "spy planes".  We can pan over the entire world and see all that there is to see.
142)Hogan
Since the value of the materials in the sectors is very important strategically (a 400 sector is worth half an 800 sector)  It would be nice is there was an overview map (or overlay) that lets you see the relative value of points on the map.  Having to click twice for each sector is really to hard to do, esp when it is more than 10 or so sectors at issue.

Not sure if anyone has said this before, maybe some sort of undo button or a way to undo a move e.g. building a unit then moving it away from a base.
Mong wrote on :

Here Here or undo making the wrong unit...
I would like the undo button but I would really like a choice of realm in the message boards. I may hand out a treaty on more than one realm and negotiations and goals will be different for each one. I would love to know which realm the treaty request response or any message is about rather than rely on fallible players (like myself).
Thank you,

just sell it. you get 60% of it's cost, and even if you're a starting nation, it won't break you.

actually, i disagree with that strongly

I accidentally built a lvl 2 construction truck on Drypto and it hindered me back two turns. it really does affect you in the beginning.

Here here to an undo button
148)Vorgse
You wouldn't need an undo button, Johnny just needs to set it so that units that haven't moved or built anything can be sold for 100% of their value the same cycle they're built
I can't say how many times I have moved a unit only to realize that I clicked on a move spot to pan around and now my unit is there...

I'm 100% behind this except for the following exploit:

In a battle -- create a buncha lvl 9 units and send them to attack.

An hour before turn end, refund those units and start them in a different spot.

This would be a HUGE advantage -- you could always do the attack an hour before the turn, but here you set it up so your op. thinks you are going somewhere else and you don't -- eg they set all their planes / missles to bomb a spot that does not have units.

Better would be for you to be able to sell back only the LAST unit you created.  This would solve this problem and the miss-click issue.
